dvd2xbox

I’ve installed dvd2xbox v0.76 after compiling it and using the ACL etc. files from v0.74, just using it to copy Ice Age 2 from DVD+R to the hard disk.

When the other 80Gb drive arrives I might try my hand at using the installer disc v3 to install a new dashboard, emulators etc. on it. I got XBMC installed already.

Saturday

Had my aunt & uncle over for dinner last night, we finally ran out of booze and went to bed at 5am, got up at 9am, so I’m a bit dehydrated and tired.

The dogs were being very attentive yesterday for some reason, probably as I was sitting in their Dad’s wicker chair.

I’ve been taking it easy today playing my newly delivered XBox. I’ve got to figure out how to put games etc. on it via FTP, install XBMC and maybe put Xebian/xUbuntu on it next.

Friday

We’ve finished the decorating, my bedroom is papered and painted as is my landing!

Phil is bringing my chipped XBox and hard disk over. Not sure how I’m going to connect it to the LAN though, I could put it into the switch in my bedroom and use it with the TV there, but I’d prefer it downstairs on the big TV to replace the crappy DVD player.

So I either run some CAT6 down there somehow, or get a “gaming adaptor” from Netgear or DLink or maybe just use my Netgear router as a simple WAP.

Python+Glade

I’ve been trying out these Glade tutorials. My God if you thought PyGTK was bad, just try using Glade to design with!

It’s horrible. For some reason PyGTK is really badly documented (like wxPython, it mainly refers you to the C++ docs) and the sizers are horribly like Tkinter, and the event handling could really learn a lot from PyQt.

And like Python’s Postgres modules, you never know which version you should be using – gnome’s libglade, pygtk’s gtk.glade, or some other glc app which I guess is a pyuic ripoff. It’s the same problem with making applets, there’s documentation for the deprecated gnome.applet routines, but not for the new gnomeapplet.

Wednesday

We went to La Dorat to get the dog’s haircuts, and had a lovely beer and coffee on the terrace of a cafe in the town centre.

We then went to find the big Netto shop in Magnac Laval. After a couple of hours driving around, we went to the Tourist Information who told us it was actually in Bellac! When we finally got there it was a bit crap anyway – no rollmops for a start!
