SSHFS

I’ve been playing with Fuse SSHFS, which allows a normal user to mount a remote SFTP site as a local folder. I’ve just opened a template on my remote webserver using Gedit on my laptop – clicking save changed the site. I guess it’s not hugely different from Samba or NFS, but it’s kinda extra cool as the encryption allows you to use it over the WAN not just the LAN, and it’s more “realtime” than SCP or SFTP.

Monday

Dad & I have been wallpapering my bedroom today, Dad also painted the ceiling and Mum came over to help glue the carpet after going to the hospital about JP’s ears with Pip. We also finished the wardrobe and put down a new rug in the landing. Apparently Kev got my package from Citylink, Phil missed the other one.

Upgrade

Just updated to v2.04 of WordPress, had to go through the usual screwing about with styles.css to get it to look how I like it. This time the PHP files merged properly so I only had to reinstall the SidebarWidgets plugin. Edit: just noticed that Free also have usenet access, including the alt.binaries.* groups!

Weekend

We all went to Chateauroux yesterday to get the back bit for my wardrobe, although it turns out we had it all along! We had a lovely kebab and did a little shopping, JP behaved very well all day, he looks smashing with his new haircut. Today Dad and I have fought with the wardrobe and got the back bit on, so it’s all done now except for the three doors, which we’re leaving off whilst the ceiling is painted and the walls papered.

FreeADSL

The router finally arrived, but it’s knackered, so has to be replaced in a few days (after 20e worth of phonecalls and Pip’s time). In the meantime I’ve been using my Netgear. I’ve found that not only do Free give you a fixed IP for free, they also give you reverse DNS, which most web hosts don’t even give you. So I’ve setup an A record in my DNS, so I can access my router from wherever I am without having to use something like DynDNS.
