I just reinstalled Fedora Core 6 on my laptop, this time not installing Xen and using the Livna repository instead of RPMforge. It went OK on the second run – the first time I managed to corrupt the RPM database by using yum and rpm at the same time and then killing rpmq/updatedb/prelink πŸ˜‰

The RT2500 wireless driver went on after some playing – it seems that you need the options line in /etc/modprobe.conf and you have to replace linux/config.h with linux/autoconf.h in rt_config.h

VMWare Server went on after creating an empty /usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-1.2798.fc6-i686/include/linux/config.h

I still can’t get the NVidia drivers to work, well I managed to install them from Livna, but I get a blank screen, so still got no fancy desktop effects. It seems to be a problem with the new 9629 drivers and my Geforce 420Go.

The latest 2849 kernel doesn’t work, it freezes at β€œdecompressing Linux”.

I got Azureus, Sun Java, Flash, Acrobat etc. installed using the instructions here and here.

I found that you really want to turn off IPv6 before running yum, as it takes forever to do DNS lookups otherwise.
