PXE boot Fedora 12 install

I’m getting a 2nd hard disk caddy for my work laptop that fits in the MulltiBay slot where the useless DVD-ROM drive goes, so that I can dual boot Linux on it (I’ve got a 160Gb 2.5″/9.5mm SATA drive hanging around). That of course presents the problem of how do we install an OS without a DVD drive?

Even a netinst is out of the question without a CD to boot from, and I don’t have a spare USB key that’s big enough to hold the 3.3Gb ISO image etc.

Catch up

A lot has been going on since my last post, so much I can’t really be bothered to post it all!

Basically we went over and “moved in” to my house in Kent, five days of almost no rest, plus shopping, assembling, phoning, driving etc. Amazingly everything arrived on the Friday except my ADSL and router (which has since arrived apparently). M&D did wonders with assembling everything, and we got 90% of what we needed to do done.

Busy Saturday

Its been a busy day today, the folks and I have been sorting through stuff in my loft to take over to the new house – we’ve got pots, pans, glasses, plates, cutlery, curtains, bedding etc. We’ve also been out shopping and to the tip.

Mum & PP went to Ikea the other day and got me a TV table as well as drinks tables, mirrors and a shelving unit. We’ve also booked the satellite fitter.

New House

Pip and Mum have been shopping for me, we’ve got 90% of what we need for the new house being delivered the day after exchange+completion:

  • Fridge/freezer: Argos
  • Washing machine: Argos
  • 2x double and 1x single beds and memory-foam mattresses: ebay
  • 3-seater and 2-seater leather sofa’s: some shop off the telly
  • Glass dining table & 4 metal chairs: same shop off the telly
  • LCD TV and PC: ebuyer

Just got to get a microwave and bit’n’bobs like TV stand, desk, drinks tables from Ikea/Tesco I expect, and someone to fit a satellite dish – I’ve already got a Sky+ box.

Why Is Everyone Incompetent?

During buying this new house of mine, I’ve had to chase and fight people to do the simplest things – even things they’ve promised to do that aren’t even difficult, no wonder the economy is in the toilet.

Barclays Bank – shredded my company accounts instead of copying them, took 6 weeks to organise a mortgage, lied repeatedly about ringing me back or escalating issues and even about faxing my offer to the solicitor “as we speak”;
