New server

Just a quick test of the new server and new version of WordPress! I’m back from my trip to Docklands – took about 2 hours to get there, only got lost in the last few minutes, 1h30ish to get back – got lost again! The hosts fscked up and had booked us in for last week, so we were an hour late getting in. I just got home in time for Dr.

Contents of my rucksack

Inspired by another post I saw on t’internet, I thought I’d write about the crap I carry in my laptop bag – usually when I go to work, or when I’m off to Kev’s to fix his computers, or to RedBus to replace servers….. Swiss Army Knife CyberTool 34. I bought this about eight years ago for 50ukp, and its been worth every penny. Funny thing is I use the screwdrivers more than the blades.

eBay rant

The Mail are wrong about the Chinese taking over the world. Whenever I have bought anything from eBay Hong Kong there’s always some hidden cost or misleading descriptions – plus of course the six weeks it usually takes to actually receive the goods! The guy who sold me the wireless CCTV is now asking for more money for a battery adaptor, more money to get a UK instead of US mains adaptor – oh and he quotes USD but charges GBP – so 0.

Saturday

I’ve got a cold and a stye, at least I think its a stye – could just be a bit of a swollen eyelid, as I’ve not had a stye in about two years since I had some minor surgery. Anyway, I’m filling up with Beechams, eyedrops and Paracetomol – in fact I just fell asleep for two hours in the middle of the day! There was in interesting story in The Mail today, about how China (and to a lesser extent, India) is going to become a major world economy – possibly overtaking the USA/UK in a few decades.

Back to work

I got back from France last night, back to work today – only to find despite taking three weeks to sort out my contract renewal, my agency has managed to hire a new guy to replace the guy who quit, in a matter of days. I’m off to Docklands to replace this server either this or next weekend, so gotta take a new database backup – the static content hasn’t changed since I cloned the server, so it shouldn’t take too long to get going, although I’ve left all my IEC cables in France, so can’t even power up the replacement server at the moment!
