Amelia arrives!

My sister gave birth to my neice Amelia today about 17:30 French time. She weighs about six pounds. She had the umbilical cord around her neck so came out blue like I did.

I’m off to Nanny’s tomorrow after work, apparently Brighton is having better weather than Ipswich, but not as good as Chaillac.

Thursday

Work was a little slow today, with routing issues effecting testing, and meetings getting in the way, although I managed to use some of that lovely bandwidth to download Solaris 10u4 and Oracle 11g, coming in at about 4Gb each.

I managed to negotiate online timesheeting with my agency so now I don’t have to get two signatures and scan stuff etc. I got paid for last week and have sent off this week’s invoice, so weekly pay is back on woohoo!

Monday

I received my snooker stuff – the rests are particularly nice, and I even got a free training cueball – it has dots where to hit it to achieve spin, curve etc.

Today I’ve been cloning my XP desktop onto a VMWare session on my Linux laptop and breaking the local admin password! I used the chntpw boot CD, which made it particularly easy to clear the SAM registry. I’ve also been downloading Solaris 10u4.

iwlwifi

I got wireless working on the work laptop, using the iwl3945 driver built into Fedora7.

It uses the new mac80211 subsystem, so no silly firmware or daemon to muck around with like the old ipw3945d, so no need for the ATrpms repo.

All the RedHat updates are done, I installed some stuff from Livna and VMWare Server 1.0.4 works out of the box with the 2.6.22 kernel, no patches required!

I went to the pub for lunch, they even remembered my “usual”. Turns out the development work going on around there is not more Barret Homes but 84 old people’s homes!

Updates

I’m updating my work laptop – 1.4Gb of Fedora7 RPM’s coming down the tubes! Fedora 8 is out next month, I think I’ll stick that on my personal laptop instead of F7. I’ve got to put VMWare on there so that I have a mobile office – and something to run certain Windows apps on.

Work was pretty hectic again today, working with a pretty major vendor who should know better to fix their setup, amidst endless voice conferences and a skipped luncheon. Then I found out I’m getting paid monthly instead of weekly, so trying to get that sorted too.
