Tuesday

I was quite busy at work today, did a couple of tests, fixed some code and cleared up some paperwork.

The Netra should arrive tomorrow. I’m still trying to get colo’s to respond to me, I’m currently looking at ServerShed.

I got my new RAC membership, luckily my old landlady forwarded it to me, I’ve changed the address for now to Ipswich as they won’t accept a French address.

I just watched Eragon, which I really liked even though it got pretty bad reviews by the die-hard book fans. It was a bit Lord Of The Rings meets Dungeons & Dragons I guess….

Sun

Phil & I have bought a Sun Netra T1 105 440MHz/1Gb server and Netra ST D130 storage array from ebay, for a grand total of 196+VAT.

We’re going to rape the D130 for its racking ears and one of the 18.2Gb disks and put them in the T1. So then we’ll have the storage array for backup or further spares such as PSU.

We’re still looking around for a colo for 30-50ukp a month.

Sunday

I just watched 10 Items Or Less, which was some crappy Hispanic indie flick, but it was obviously made by a big producer as it starred Morgan Freeman. Very odd.

I also just got Fight Night 2004 for Xbox, which seems to completely ignore any user commands, and the computer seems to just play along with itself! Maybe it’s a two player only game or something….

Update: just watched Blood Diamond, about the diamond trade in Africa. It was pretty good and I guess Leonardo DiCaprio has finally become a good actor.

Saturday

Still not feeling 100% despite taking the Beechams en masse!

I’ve just watched Miss Potter, about Beatrix Potter’s life, it wasn’t bad, better than Hannibal Rising, which was utter crap.

I had fish’n’chips today, very nice from the local chippie that never seems to be open, I guess the nice weather brought people out as it was packed! I couldn’t eat all the fish, although a bit pricey at a fiver for cod….

Firewalls

I got my kit from ebuyer – they actually gave me free next day courier. So I fitted the northbridge heatsink, the machine is almost silent now without the busted 40mm fan! The new network cards are nice too – they came with WOL cables and low profile blanking plates for fitting in a 2U case.

I also found that ebuyer stock the Buffalo WHR-G54S-1 wifi router, which can take the OpenWRT or DD-WRT firmware, it’s also faster than a Linksys WRT54GL-UK and a third cheaper.
