Desktop effects

I finally got desktop effects working on my laptop. I installed the 9629 Nvidia driver from Livna, and added: Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP" to the Device section of /etc/xorg.conf The effects are really cool looking, and quite useful too – transparent windows is good for when you want a fullscreen website open but want to be able to type in a terminal window, the zoom is nice too, wobbly windows is a little annoying, fades/minimises are MacOSX-ish and the 3D desktop cube is old.

Fedora 6 again

I just reinstalled Fedora Core 6 on my laptop, this time not installing Xen and using the Livna repository instead of RPMforge. It went OK on the second run – the first time I managed to corrupt the RPM database by using yum and rpm at the same time and then killing rpmq/updatedb/prelink 😉 The RT2500 wireless driver went on after some playing – it seems that you need the options line in /etc/modprobe.

Shopping Sunday

I’ve done all my Xmas shopping now – well, Dad’s I’ll get when I get back to France, and when Mum & Pip do the Tesco order. I got Pippa a couple of things, and some more stuff for Mum & Phil, card for Nanny, red/gold/silver collars for the cats etc. Ipswich was ridiculously busy for a Sunday. I had a wander around Wilko’s and got some stuff like earbuds, shower gel and tissues.

Saturday

Just watched the awful Slither, a real second-rate zombie/alien movie. It’s been raining today so I didn’t go shopping, I’m going to go to Wilko’s and Clinton Cards tomorrow if the weather’s better. I might go and find ASDA too as I need to do some shopping and am getting fed-up with Tesco’s – it’s not as cheap as it used to be, and thee’s not much choice. Mind you Sainsbury’s is nextdoor to Wilkinsons….

Friday

I came home early today as I’d already made my hours up (and got the timesheet signed!) and half the team was working from home anyway. I’ve done two loads of washing, done the rubbish, done some downloads, burned some DVD’s, bought some Xmas stuff from eBay and watched the [pretty awful] Bring It On 3. I’m going into Ipswich tomorrow to do some Xmas shopping, then I’ll probably go to Tesco and get some stuff to cook a curry, as I’m fed up of pizza and sandwiches don’t seem to be satisfying me – that said, I had a lovely baguette last night and I just enjoyed a cheese toastie….
