Agency fun

I got a phonecall from the agency this morning saying that they will get a contract out to me by Monday to start the following Monday. The guy said he’d Email me a company/bank details form to fill in and then hung up before I could ask him his name or contact details. Well that was six hours ago and still no Email. I wonder if this is the guy who phoned two weeks ago asking if I was interested in the job, and never Emailed me his contact details like he said he would?

Wednesday

Just found that Lovefilm has merged with Screenselect, so the two best DVD rental companies in the UK are now one big company. So you get the speed and range of Lovefilm, plus the Xbox games and pr0n of Screenselect! I can see I’m going to need to buy some DVD-R’s and take my XBox and a computer with me to England. Pip said that Tesco’s is right by work, so shopping won’t be a problem.

Dutch Tuesday

I found out this morning that I didn’t get the Amsterdam job, in fact I saw it re-advertised before the agency even bothered to contact me! Apparently it was down to lack of financial experience, which seems like crap as that wasn’t in the job spec, and did it really take two interviews and three weeks for them to figure that out – did they not read my CV?! Anyway, so hopefully off to Ipswich to work with Phil for 3 months, getting away from WebDev and into network security, although not heard from them yet either!

XBMC2 and FC6

I’ve been trying out the relecently released Xbox Media Centre 2 today, there doesn’t seem to be that many new features except USB mass storage/FAT32 support, which means with a suitable controller->USB adaptor, you can plug in up to a 4Gb USB card reader or hard disk. The release of Fedora Core 6 has been put back a week, I tried test3 and it wasn’t exactly release-ready due to Anaconda problems mostly, then a pseudo test4/RC1 was released, with a few AIGLX fixes, but now there’s talk of ext3/iSCSI problems.
