Packing

Been busy packing tonight, my room looks pretty bare now. I should get everything in the car no problem, I might do a mock pack this weekend to make sure. I’ve essentially packed everything except for one PC (gotta download some MP3’s off the laptop onto the PC and then I can pack it) and my clothes, which I think will mostly go in the suitcase. I’ve got a load of old towels and stuff to use to pad things out (like making sure the paint doesn’t move around) and to cover stuff up in the car.

Bloody ebuyer!

I waited for the ebuyer sale to put my order through, and it turned out to be crap, just a few 2nd-hand monitors! So it meant that I had to pay more shipping to get my goods to me before I leave the country. Then about an hour after I ordered the stuff ebuyer said that there may be shipping delays! So I phoned them up and apparently, even though you select your shipping method by delivery date, they cannot guarantee that delivery date – so why bother with couriers?

Tuesday

I went to B&Q and Homebase to get a lightswitch for my new bathroom. I got a nice chrome rose bit and a blue/chrome handle that is a lightbulb, it’s lovely! They had chrome “teardrop” handles, but they were so heavy (looked like a fishing lure!) that if you swang the cord a bit too much you’d end up smashing the shower! Work’s starting to shit themselves a bit, we’re trying to organise a backup server (probably rebuild the old development UltraSparc with Perl, Bind and Apache), I’m going to have to [re]write a monitoring script, and they’re going to have to do the release without me in a couple of weeks time, which means I’ve got to explain to them how to do all the little hacks I have to do to migrate from the old servers to the new servers without a proper staging environment.

Compiling PyQt4 with VS.NET

I’ve spent most of today at work compiling Qt and PyQt using Visual Studio.NET 2003. I finally got it all done, there are a few caveats like you have to edit your PATH and create shortcuts etc; but it’s nicer than the MinGW solution. I might have a go using VS2005 next 😉 The way I managed it (I couldn’t get it to work the way the PyKDE list said, downloading the MinGW distribution first etc.

Upgrade

Just upgraded this blog, so had to re-install the Widgets plugin (for the calendar) edit the stylesheet (increase font sizes, change alignment) and edit the footer (replace RSS stuff with query timer) at least they scripted the database update!
