Linux [virtually] Thursday

Pretty boring day at work today, although I did get to attack a proprietary webserver (had to install 32-Bit Firefox for Java plugin) and test my new automated pen-testing scripts. I removed KVM from my work laptop today as like Xen, it totally breaks VMWare, and even with the VT-enabled processor, it still seems ridiculously slow. I installed Fedora8 on the new guy’s laptop and it doesn’t seem much better than F7 so I’m going to wait for F9 before I upgrade any of my own kit.

Night Rider 2008

I just watched the new Knight Rider 2008 pilot episode. It wasn’t bad, but the continuity with the spinoffs is totally gone. Here’s how the KR history now goes – the shows weren’t made in this chronological order though: Knight Rider (set in early 1980’s, KITT 2000 is a Pontiac Trans Am) Team Night Rider (late 90’s, Michael Night and KITT 2000 possibly still alive, various cars) Night Rider 2000 (2000, KITT 4000 is a weird concept car, Michael not dead, KITT 2000 salvaged and put into an old Mustang) Knight Rider 2008 (2008, KITT 3000 is a new Mustang, Michael not dead) Knight Rider 2010 (2010, old Mustang with a computer containing someone’s soul in a KITT-esque manner, no Michael reference) I had a play with Qemu and virt-manager yesterday, well it didn’t finish getting through the Fedora8 install and was extremely slow and the keyboard and mouse was iffy, experience similar to Xen/KVM.

Slow weekend

Had a bit of a boring weekend. I’ve been finishing up syncing the AC200 to replace the T105 server, as well as upgrading some of the software. I guess I’ll have to pop down to Docklands sometime soon. I’ve watched a few films: In The Valley Of Elah, a film about a soldier who is killed when he gets back from Iraq, pretty gloomy, with echoes of First Blood, but very slow at 2hrs, it really looked like it was going to be a conspiracy movie, then the ending just was anti-climatic.

Update

Well I’m back from France, it was a nice break, 30th birthday was not too depressing 😉 I’m back off to France for Easter 14th-24th for Mum’s birthday, just as Mum & Dad get back from England. I’ve got to get the car taxed, MOT’d and serviced April 2nd. We’ve had some visitors from a foreign company at work this week, so its been a bit hectic looking after them at the same time as doing huge amounts of testing.

Yay, holiday!

ebuyer have given me my money back for the duff hard disk, so why couldn’t Scan do that and satisfy their customer?! I’ve been sorting out some infrastructure at work today, so the guys can do some testing next week when I’m away. The boss told me to go at 1:30pm, once that lot was done, can’t say fairer than that 🙂 I watched Aliens vs. Predator: Requim, or basically AvP2, last night.
