Printer woes

Oh I wish printer manufacturers would make opensource drivers, even the ones who provide Linux drivers, still use closed binaries that really don’t work…..

I’ve been trying to get my Samsung ML2510 and Epson RX425 working on my CentOS5 box, and we all know how bad the Samsung drivers are, but I’ve never really had a problem with the Epson ones. Anyway, after applying the Samsung-doesnt-play-nice-with-scanners patch, which was for an earlier version of the unified drivers, I got both printers working and the Epson scanning, however not when they were both powered up.

Bloody hot!

Its bloody hot today – 33c air temperature, and even the pool is 30c!

Yesterday’s fete du Chaillac was good as usual – the famous singer cancelled and was replaced by a bunch of idiots who couldn’t even keep the speakers/mics working, but the fireworks were great and it was nice for the Johns and Parsons to all sit out together by the beach/lake. We had a picnic and some beer!

Update

I’ve been too busy to post on my blog for a while, so here’s a quick update.

I’m having visitors tomorrow – the Parsons and Slosses are coming over on the way to the firework show, so I’ve been cleaning madly today. Beforehand Phil is taking me to get stairs for the shell, which now features a new floor!

Brandy my cat has not been too well again lately, weeing blood and being lathargic around the house. Clio has been hanging around the house more lately.

Toulouse

We went to Toulouse on Friday so Pippa could pick up her new car. It was very similar to Limoges or Chateauroux, nothing special really. There was an out-of-town area with Ikea, and the town centre was mainly restaurants.

We had lunch on a boat – a floating Thai restaurant on one of Toulouse’s famous rivers.

We went to Ikea and picked up a few bargains, then decided to come home instead of stay overnight.

Email ahoy!

We’ve finally got Email working on the server, all domains are now migrated (well, I’m waiting on synapticconsultingltd.co.uk, but that should get done today).

It’s secure, spam/virus -free and configurable, plus Pine works, which is nicer than Mutt that I used to use.

Poor ol’ Phil has been slaving away for nights on Sendmail for SMTP, I did a few hours on Dovecot for IMAP/POP3 after we gave up on ipop3d; and SquirrelMail for WebMail last night.
