I’m back from my trip to Brighton. Brighton seems to be split into two these days – the super poor chavs, mostly made up of Muslims, single mothers and students and the uber rich Sloane rangers with their two-Jags and Mercedes 4×4’s. Shoreham and Worthing haven’t changed that much – I was surprised to see how many of the little highstreet shops (like Top Banana and Adur Travel) were still in business, probably helped by all the development of the Ropetackle area.

No, don’t feint, I haven’t actually thrown out any old computers (in fact I found my old K6-2/350 in the loft the other day!) I moved my Pentium4 machine into the silver case that was holding the partially-built Athlon. It all went back together quite well, in fact the front USB/Firewire that never worked with the Athlon work with the P4. There was a lot of dust in the old case, as well as a beetle (I think it was John Lennon) and a moth.

Well I finally gave in and joined Faceshite Facebook today. Like most other social networking sites (Livejournal for example), its pretty rubbish. None of my old schools are listed or still exist it seems. None of my past employers exist or still employ anyone I knew – mind you, most of the places I’ve worked at I wouldn’t want to talk to anyone from anyway, why do you think I left?

Just watched The Incredible Hulk. Strangely enough the three lead characters from the last movie “Hulk” were replaced with completely different actors – Edward Norton played a bit-too-weak Bruce Banner, but you can never complain about Liv Tyler getting more airtime 😉 Anyway, it was pretty good albeit a bit slow, but the last 30mins were great – with an interesting Iron Man tie-in just before the credits roll; however Iron Man was much better than this.

I’m trying to sync my “useful software” directory on my desktop with my fileserver, and as there’s so much on there, doing it via NFS and drag’n’drop is a bit hit and miss, so I thought I’d try rsync’ing it. When I tried using SSH as the transport I was getting strange “Corrupted MAC on input” errors, which nobody seems to know the cause of, its hinted at iffy hardware such as consumer-grade switches.
