Saturday

I went to Halfords today and got the stuff for motoring in France – first aid kit, triangle, bulbs, fuses, headlight adaptors etc. I also went to the Citroen dealership and got the bonnet arm clip thing replaced. I also managed to adjust my GPS so it doesn’t obscure my speedometre!

Went to lunch at the local pub and got rent money from Tescos.

The weather has gone off (typical bank holiday!) it’s been 10-15 degrees here the last couple of days, Mum & Dad said the same about France when I rang them earlier.

Friday

I learned about Solaris 10’s logadm today, after installing logrotate and getting it configured! A single logadm command sets up the config file and runs from cron!

I remembered last night that the hard disk I was going to put in my new enclosure is in France – doh! I got the enclosure today, it looks pretty cool.

I just watched Lost S3E19, it’s really still pretty slow at this point, but it’s looking like they’re possibly dead and in limbo, or some drug-induced Matrix-esque VR world. I certainly don’t think they’re on an island in real life. I’ve also got Supernatural S2E20 to watch later.

Thursday

Those people didn’t buy the Clio, so it’s got a sign on it by the side of the road now 🙁

I’ve bought a Newlink USB2+eSATA enclosure along with a SATA-to-eSATA cable and a internal-to-external SATA blanking plate, so I can use my existing SATA controller with the new eSATA enclosure.

I upgraded to VMWare Server 1.0.3 at the same time as the new FC5 kernel 2.6.20-something, which has just been EOL’d, so definitely going to have to upgrade to Fedora7 when I get back to France.

Wednesday

I watched The Holiday last night, it was pretty good, but would have been better if it was more Kate Winslet/Jack Black than Cameron Diaz/Jude Law. It was a bit long too.

I just watched 300, it was a bit story-less, i.e. just fighting, but not bad.

Dad’s back in France safely, and someone might be going to buy the Clio tomorrow too.

I’m looking at one of these JouJye external HDD enclosures. It’s got USB2/SATA150 for use now, and eSATA300 for when Linux gets better support, and eSATA cards get cheaper! I’ve got a couple of internal-to-external SATA blanking plates already, and that 250Gb lying around….

Update

I haven’t been bothered to write in my blog for a while, so thought I’d do a quick update.

The new car is going well, I drove it to Stansted and back to get Dad from the airport and Brighton and back to see Nanny and still have about half a tank left!

Dad flew over to pick up the Clio and drive it back to France. I got a call today that he couldn’t get it started – that bloody cable again, but he couldn’t open the bonnet to get to it, so got a tow or something. Luckily he did this in Brighton, not France, so now he knows how to open the bonnet. Anyway, it was nice to see him on his birthday.
