Slow Saturday

Been a bit of a slow day today, I went to the pub for lunch, did the washing, popped to Tesco – that reminds me, I must ask Pip what it was she wanted from Tesco – treacle or something weird.

I tried out the 2.6.20 kernel, which seemed to screw with ALSA, but I’ve mostly got it fixed now, VMWare and Nvidia were no problem.

I phoned Mum & Dad. Dad had found a Renault Scenic on ebay for me to look at, but I got outbid. God know’s how I would have picked it up from Surrey and got it taxed/insured etc. in time to take pick up Mum and go to France (change ferry ticket too) and what would I do with the Clio etc…. I think I’ll leave a new car until I’m back in France with time on my hands.

Thursday

I took my car in to have the exhaust looked at again before work this morning, it’s fixed now, they just hadn’t put a second rubber on a joint so it was banging against the chasis.

Work was busier today, had some calls to do, got timesheets done, failed to get Vista working under VMWare.

I phoned Chris from BE as I had to tell him of a joke I saw on b3ta. My intranet and other software is all still running well. Apparently they’re having ActiveDirectory/XP migration issues, but otherwise it’s much the same there. He’s going to be in France when I’m over there in a couple of weeks, although Grenoble not Limoges…..

Funny weather

Yesterday we had hail, rain and sunshine, this morning we had snow, then midday it was quite sunny and hot, tonight it’s a bloody cold wind, but still quite bright…. Global warming my arse 😉

My exhaust seems to make a bit of a noise when I make a tight turn, so I expect as Phil did that they’ve retro-fitted a not quite right part on there, oh well it’s only a noise.

Packing Tuesday

We had a couple of flurries of hail today.

We’ve been playing with backing up a new Vista laptop at work today, so Ubuntu can go on it instead! What is weird is how much Vista seems to have ripped off the Linux GUI, except for the four screens you have to navigate through just to shutdown….

I’ve done a bit more packing, it looks like I’ll be taking a suitcase full of clothes I don’t wear (or will wear whilst in France) and my purchases like woks, cutlery etc; Phil’s ebay stuff, a crate of computer bits I won’t need for 3 months and the two Sun servers.

Monday

I woke up at 4am this morning, thinking about Nanny for some reason. Anyway, couldn’t get back to sleep really so been yawning all day at work. I’m trying not to have a kip though as I won’t sleep again tonight then.

I got my exhaust box fixed, took it down the road and they had it done after lunch, 45+VAT, so not bad, they even phoned around a bit to get the part cheaper and apparently the front half of the exhaust is fine.
